The Opportunity:

The BOH Lead position (Assistant Manager) at Communal is an exemplary team member who supports the shop with team development, daily business operations and quality assurance. The BOH Lead demonstrates and promotes Communal culture, values and mission. This position supports the management team to execute daily task lists, meet cleanliness standards and maintain a positive work environment. The goal of this position is to provide employees with the tools needed to produce an excellent, consistent product while giving them an exceptional employment experience. While this is a back of house position, all employees are expected to demonstrate outstanding customer service while on site. 

  • Maintain a positive, patient demeanor with fellow employees and customers while employing a sense of urgency.
  • Maintain excellent attendance, punctuality, dress code requirements, health and safety standards.
  • Remain calm and collected when responding to stress or challenges.
  • Cultivate a problem-solving mindset among the team using critical thinking skills and preventative measures. 
  • Manage staff breaks during shifts according to company and state policy.
  • Communicate and coordinate with FOH Lead throughout shift to conduct a cohesive and successful shift.
  • Work with the management team to create and implement training tools during shadow shifts and with new hires. 
  • Works with management on menu development, determine food costs and create and maintain vendor relationship. 
  • Communicate highlights and deficiencies of kitchen staff with management, especially during the training process.
  • Coach “in the moment” to avoid confusion or formation of bad habits.
  • Ensure all staff are producing consistent results in menu preparation in accordance with company standards within acceptable wait times without sacrificing quality.
  • Demonstrate how and motivate the team to complete daily, weekly, monthly task lists.
  • Works with Management to ensure food safety, quality and consistency.
  • Manage inventory, ordering and freshness/cleanliness of product.
  • Leads menu tastings for staff as new recipes and items are added.

Requirements:

Mostly, we want to know that you can get this job done. This means, you have/are:

  • 1 year minimum professional experience cooking (strongly preferred).
  • Possess a current food handlers card valid for work location.
  • A proven ability to handle fast paced environments while keeping an eye on excellence.
  • A Flexible Schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. 

Position Details:

This is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position. The starting pay for this position is $18.85 per hour depending on experience, plus percentage tip pool. Benefits include sick time, free drinks, discounts, simple IRA for eligible employees.
